Waiting For Your Visit!

Posted by Jason Hofing on November 07, 2011

Come Visit Us at Our New Location!

We have settled into our new location on Lancing Drive and would LOVE for you to stop by!  We have coffee available that has gone straight from our roaster onto our shelves and is just waiting for you to pick it up and brew it.  We'd be happy to make you a steaming cup of coffee when you stop by and the bag of coffee you purchase will be only $10 for the month of November.
We have beautiful and practical ceramic brew baskets (drippers) available for purchase (they make great gifts!) and will soon carry a selection of loose-leaf teas from Rishi.  (Our tea selection will, of course, also be fairly traded and certified organic).

On Friday, NOVEMBER 11 and Saturday, NOVEMBER 12, we will be having an OPEN HOUSE to welcome all of you to stop by, say hello, have a cup of coffee, and perhaps pick up a bag of coffee for the weekend.   We hope to see you then!!

FUN FACT - DID YOU KNOW?

A couple of large studies have shown that drinking coffee may decrease a womans risk of having a stroke.  Two large studies, one published in "Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association" in March of 2010 and the well-known Nurses Health Study, both showed a coorelation between coffee drinking (1 or more cups of coffee per day) and a 19 - 25% decrease in the risk of having a stroke.  The percentages changed a little based on the study and on the amount of coffee consumed.  Researchers don't know for sure the reasons for this but think it may have to do with the effect coffee consumption has in reducing inflammation in the body, improving insulin resistance or in the high concentration of antioxidants present in coffee.  Whatever the reason, I think it's great that a beverage that provides us with a break and a little lift to our day is proving to have health benefits as well!

Samplers, Baristas-at-home & Christmas

Posted by Jason Hofing on December 21, 2010

Unless you live under a rock with headphones in constantly, you've of course noticed that the Christmas season is well upon us. Regardless of where you stand with your holiday shopping, at Red Hill Coffee Trade we have a couple of suggestions to make your shopping easier, and of course a little bit more satisfactory with the gift of delicious coffee.

Do you ever find yourself wondering how the coffeehouse/cafe down the street makes such a satisfactory cup of coffee? One that just tastes right every time you purchase it? In order to be able to gift amazing coffee to your loved ones, friends and colleagues as well as yourself of course, we've created two options to help you, and you can purchase both by stopping into the roasterie or ordering from our website; www.redhillcoffee.com. With orders placed by mid-day on the 22nd we will guarantee shipping within Ontario before Christmas.

First, we offer a Christmas package we call the "Barista-at-home" kit. The kit includes a ceramic dripper that fits comfortably over most mugs. With the simple insertion of a filter and the correct amount of finely ground Red Hill coffee you are ready to go. The fact is that simply delicious coffee isn't difficult to prepare. Each time you want to create a fantastic cup of coffee you boil your water, add your filter/coffee to the dripper and pour the water over so that it drips down into your cup. Each kit comes with four packages of coffee and each package will brew three 12 oz cups of coffee. If you are interested in the "Barista-at-home" kit then please contact us directly (thetrade@redhillcoffee.com). Priced at $28.99 this product is perfect for everyone on your list and comes with detailed instructions.

Secondly we offer a Sampler kit. Included in this kit is a selection of 8 different coffees. Conveniently pre-packaged you can give the entire kit to a coffee lover on your list, or divy up the coffees. They are packaged perfectly as stocking stuffers or can be tied to the top of a gift. The origins include Peruvian, Colombian, Ethiopian, Bolivian, Guatamalan, Sumatran, Espresso blend and our Peruvian Decaf. Each kit costs $24.99 and of course, shipping is included in the price.

We at Red Hill Coffee Trade would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Things We Like: The Coach House, Shelley Adams

Posted by Andrew Holden on November 28, 2010

“You’ve got to hear this girl’s voice!” says Lisa Winn, one of Hamilton’s legendary voices.

Shelley Adams will gingerly rip your heart out with daunting melodies then wrap it in familiar stories before gently returning it to your chest, full of love. Her debut album, “The Coach House,” with her evocative lyrics, sultry voice and honest portrayal of life will have you falling in love with her alt-country-pop style.

Shelley tells the stories you'll want to hear. The tales she tells become all the more beautiful because they are declared through her most intoxicating instrument, her voice. Shelley’s unique vocal delivery, with an incredible range from strong and controlled to soft and vulnerable, has such bold character and expression that she is a modern tribute to the soul sisters of the past.

She is a quintessential rare bird: whimsical, delicate, breath-taking and full of life. We are lucky to listen to Shelley soaring through the sky and sharing her gorgeous song. Graham Rockingham (Musical Editor at The Hamilton Spectator) says it simply, “This CD, The Coach House, is too good not to get noticed nationally.”
